Auditions are all about preparation! If you allow, it could cause anxiety and quite frankly...truthfully; be an excruciating process.
In theatre the key is to find the perfect monologue. The right selection is the difference between getting a call-back or ending up in the back alley with the others! Find something you're comfortable with and that flows off your tongue with ease! It'll help being in front of strangers to "act" natural!
For the screen; if you're blessed to get the script ahead of time...study it! Learn the lines so you're not stumbling. For both, the screen and stage, rehearse in front of the mirror, away from a mirror, in the shower, driving, lying down...you get the picture?
A great head-shot is great as well! Take a picture that showcases you and your great smile, or eyes, your high cheek bones, your baby hair...something! It's the visual representation of you and essentially the lasting impression you'll offer before the call-back!
Your resume should be up-to-date and a written explanation of everything you have to offer the stage and/or screen! FYI- It's best to have it right-side up pasted to your head-shot. Not stapled. It's just cleaner that way...it won't get lost!
This is all the prep work! Once at the audition breathe, be comfortable, relax, release! You've done all you can now it's time to impress the casting directors with your live talent! Action! You're on!
Have fun! Take a shot before to calm your nerves. You want to be cool, calm and collected...and have personality!
Once you get the call-back take some time to research the part you're going for. Find out background info so that you know the who, what, when, where and how...it saves on the awkward read you may do on the spot! Again; be natural and have fun! It's all a process, make it fun!
